1. CRV & Scrap Metal Recycling

Thousand Oaks offers a high-end Home Collection Program for hazardous waste, which is quite rare in California.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)

• Home Collection: Residents can schedule one free collection per quarter for items like paint, chemicals, and batteries. Call (805) 852-5264 or visit the Athens Services portal to make an appointment.

• Drop-off Facility: You can also drop off items at the City’s HHW Facility (1993 Rancho Conejo Blvd) on the first Saturday of each month. Appointment required.

Electronics (E-Waste)

• Hollywood Storage Center: 3425 Old Conejo Rd. Offers FREE electronics recycling 7 days a week (8:30 AM – 6:00 PM).

• Retailers: Staples, Best Buy (Moorpark Rd), and the Apple Store (The Oaks mall) also accept various electronic items for recycling.

3. Curbside Services (Athens Services)

The City of Thousand Oaks uses Athens Services for residential waste collection.

• Blue Bin (Recycling): Place items loose (no bags). Accepts plastic containers #1, #2, and #5, cardboard, paper, and metal cans.

• Green Bin (Organics): Now includes all food scraps (meat, dairy, bones, fruit/veg) as well as yard trimmings.

4. Helpful Tips for T.O. Residents

• No Plastic Bags: Never put plastic bags in the blue recycling bin; they tangle the sorting machinery.

• Batteries: Do not put batteries in your trash or recycling bins. Use the Home Collection program or drop them at the HHW facility.
