CRV Buyback and General Recycling

For redeeming aluminum cans, glass, and plastic bottles for California Redemption Value (CRV) cash, the most central and well-known facility is located on the college campus.

OC Recycling - Costa Mesa is the primary community hub for redeeming beverage containers and disposing of household recyclables.

• Materials: Accepts aluminum, glass, and plastic (CRV 1-7), as well as scrap metal and car batteries.

• Convenience: Features a drive-through setup where staff weigh items and provide cash payouts on the spot.

• Community: Located at Orange Coast College, it also serves as a recovery kitchen and food bank partner for the city.

Costa Mesa residents have two primary ways to dispose of hazardous materials like paint, chemicals, and electronics for free.

Door-to-Door Collection The Costa Mesa Sanitary District (CMSD) provides a free pickup service for its residential customers.

• Eligibility: Limited to single-family homes and small multi-family units (4 units or less).

• Service: Residents can schedule up to three pickups per year by calling CR&R at (949) 646-4617.

• Items: Covers motor oil, filters, batteries, electronic waste, and sharps (needles).

County Drop-off Centers If you are not eligible for curbside pickup or prefer to drop items off, there are two nearby regional centers.
