In the City of Orange, recycling centers are managed through a combination of city-provided curbside pickup, specialized regional hazardous waste centers, and a unique "pick up and pay" service for bottles and cans.
Orange residents have a convenient doorstep option that most other cities don't yet offer:
Recycle From Home™: This is a pilot program in Orange where you schedule a pickup online, and they pay you for your CRV (California Redemption Value) via PayPal, Venmo, or check. They provide the bags and QR tags.
OC Recycling (Nearby): If you prefer a traditional walk-in center for large loads of metal or plastic, OC Recycling in Santa Ana (nearby on E. 4th St) is a highly-rated regional hub for scrap metal and CRV.
Waste Management: You can drop off non-CRV recyclables at their facility at 2050 N. Glassell St. (Note: This is generally for drop-off, not cash redemption).
Residents of Orange can use any of the four Orange County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers for free. These centers accept paint, batteries, motor oil, chemicals, and pesticides.
Primary Location for Orange: Anaheim Collection Center
Address: 1071 N. Blue Gum Street, Anaheim, CA 92806
Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Closed holidays and during rainy weather).
Safety Limits: You may transport a maximum of 15 gallons or 125 pounds per vehicle trip.
HHW Centers: The Anaheim center mentioned above also accepts electronic waste (TVs, computers, monitors).
Goodwill of Orange County: They have a robust electronics recycling program and will accept most tech items (working or not) to be refurbished or responsibly dismantled.
TechWaste Recycling: Located in the area, they offer secure data destruction and electronics recycling, often providing free pickups for businesses with larger quantities of e-waste.
For standard weekly service, the City of Orange uses CR&R Environmental Services.
Blue Cart (Recycling): Place items loose (not bagged). Accepts plastic #1–#7, glass bottles, aluminum/tin cans, and clean paper.
Green Cart (Organics): Orange residents are now encouraged to put food scraps (meat, dairy, produce) in the green cart along with yard waste.
Bulky Item Pickup: Residents are entitled to free bulky item pickups (furniture, appliances) each year. Call (714) 372-8272 to schedule.
